Genia is traveling to London to visit a schoolfriend when she stops for refreshments at an inn. However, the innkeeper's son has fallen sick with the measles and a quarantine is declared over the inn. Genia is thrown together with the other travelers, including the spoiled Emily who is eloping with a fortune-hunter, over the next few weeks. She plots with another pair of travelers, the Teverley cousins, to prevent Emily's elopement.
This is a light, fun Regency romance, though I found Emily too spoiled and irritating and undeserving of all the other characters' efforts on her behalf.
Loved it! I loved `Jenny'...the heroine of this lovely story! She's a very no-nonsense kind of woman that is really quite hard on herself and a bit too nice at times... though she has been raised to be so. The descriptions of the different places, peoples clothes, carriages, etc was wonderful. I love how the `rip you to shreds while smiling ever so sweetly with no one ever the wiser' comments flow so easily! The patience it takes to deal with that everywhere you go...well, I don't have it! It's great the way Jenny handles herself... defends herself quite well, but without the drama that could very easily come with it! The hero is wonderful!! Strong, straightforward, opinionated, irritating, protective and SO in love... very sexy in a man crazy as it seems! Sometimes it seemed like a word or a phrase was put in just because it would have fit in that era and it could sound a bit much. But other times it fit! All in all I highly recommend this book! It's a fun, romantic, easy book you don't want to put down!!
This novel of Regency England is a reprint of a book circa 1980, and would be called a Sweet Regency Romance in 2011. For once, I'm going to give you the back blurb, because it really pares nicely down to the real start of the book.

Here we have a heroine who has made the best of what life has handed her. She's an interesting, gracious young woman, but on her best day she's merely handsome, and in a family with two extremely attractive siblings, her mother decided early on that Jenny was not going to be worth bothering with.
Left with tight finances after her parents' death, and apparently no strong sibling ties, she ends up helping her loving if not-too-bright aunt with a growing family - until an old school friend invites her to the wedding of her sister (characters from Robin's first Regency novel Althea.) And it's on her way to London that all Jenny's adventures begin.
I enjoyed this Georgette Heyer Lite tale, although I got more of Emily, who proves a tad selfish at the throw, than I cared for. But Jenny shines all the more by the contrast, and you will be rewarded with a fine HEA.
This was funny, romantic and sweet. The rapport between the H & h was hysterical. I found him very likable and she was fun and sensible. I did feel like she let herself get walked on a little too much but - the hero thought so too and he was looking out for her! His declaration of love was one of the best I've read. I highly recommend.
I smiled at another reviewer's comment on the cover. It is...different .... and maybe it doesn't scream "Read me!!" but let's face it, our h is not a ravishing beauty and I kinda liked that the cover reflected this.
This is a sweet engaging story with a down-to-earth h and the kind of H I always love - a man who sees right into the heart of the h and recognizes her goodness and sweetness. He brings out the best in her, in this case, the best being assertiveness and an acerbic tongue when the occasion calls for it.

Right off the bat, I have to say that the cover of this book is so hilariously awful, I almost didn't buy it! Superficial of me, yes, I know. Then I find out that the heroine of this book is named... Miss Iphegenia Prydd *crickets* I soldiered on, and was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Iphegenia/Genia/Jenny is a plain, sensible spinster who lives with her aunt, uncle, and their young children. The family isn't cruel to Jenny, they just take her for granted as a nursemaid/governess/companion. When Jenny receives a letter from an old schoolmate, inviting her to come to London for a wedding, she is thrilled. She has led a quiet and uneventful life, so this will be an adventure of a lifetime. Unfortunately, while stopping at an inn for refreshment on the way to London, Jenny, along with several other guests, become Quarantined due to a child with measles. This is where the story really begins. The Hero, Peter Teverly, is travelling with his 19 year old nephew, Domenic. We have an eloping young couple, Emily and Adrian, although Emily appears to be having second thoughts. After figuring out Emily's situation, Peter, Domenic, Jenny and Mrs. Hatcher (the landlady), conspire to foil the elopement. This all happens in the first third of the story, and they go on to be involved in each others lives once they reach London. The sharp, sometimes witty banter between Jenny and Peter is fun, and a real departure for quiet, self-effacing Jenny. Sweet Domenic has an awful mother who figures in to the final third of the story. Adrian, the thwarted fortune hunter pops up briefly to stir up mischief, while Emily remains a spoiled, immature girl ~ in fact, I think she gets worse as the story goes on ~ I would have boxed her ears! It was a well written, enjoyable story, nonetheless.
